Carrollton Manor Chapter, NSDAR
Buckeystown, Maryland
Buckeystown, Maryland
Our chapter was organized October 12, 1965, and is named after one of the signers of the U.S. Declaration of Independence, Charles Carroll of Carrollton. He was the son of Charles Carroll of Annapolis, who granted him an estate in the southern portion of Frederick County, Maryland, consisting of 17,000 acres bordering the Potomac River. Charles Carroll of Carrollton was elected to the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, and served as delegate until 1778. He subsequently helped to draft a state constitution and assisted in forming a state government. Carroll was re-elected to the Continental Congress in 1780 but preferred to serve in the state senate to which he was elected in 1781 and served until 1800. Few know that Charles Carroll was the first signer of the Declaration of Independence and the last signatory to die; he lived to be 95. Today, a bronze statue of Charles Carroll of Carrollton stands in the Hall of Columns in the United States Capitol.
The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America's future through better education for children. Nationally, DAR members volunteer more than 60,000 hours annually, award over $150,000 in scholarships and financial aid each year, and support schools for the underprivileged with annual donations exceeding one million dollars.
Any woman is eligible for membership in DAR who is no less than 18 years of age and can prove lineal, bloodline descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence. For information regarding membership, please contact us.
With 72 members and growing, our membership reflects a wide range of ages and interests from throughout Frederick County, Maryland. Having a strong desire to make our chapter meetings available to our members, we typically hold our monthly meetings in the evening or on Saturdays. Our calendar year is September through May. We recess during the months of June, July, August, and December to spend time with family and friends.

Every October, DAR members across the country celebrate the anniversary of the founding of our organization by participating in the National DAR Day of Service. 🤝 This year, the Carrollton Manor Chapter will join the Walk to End Alzheimer's in Frederick, MD, on October 12th! 👟 This Walk, one of more than 600 in communities nationwide, is part of the largest event to raise funds and awareness for the care, support, and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association. Please consider walking or volunteering with us! You can also support us by making a donation to the Alzheimer's Association on behalf of the Carrollton Manor DAR Team.
During Fox 5 DC's recent Zip Trip to Frederick, MD, our chapter hosted a table with information about the Daughters of the American Revolution. We also featured the Maryland signers of the Declaration of Independence! The Frederick chapter and the Sons of the American Revolution joined us at the event as well.
